Serving seniors through an adult day care

by Paula Anderson

Taking care of seniors has been the focus for Brenda Triplett, founder of Golden Years Adult Day Care of Jackson, LLC. Triplett is a licensed practical nurse by trade and saw a need to help seniors who suffer from medical conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer's.

Her business is based in Jackson, Tenn. and serves a population that is often overlooked.

“I worked as a nurse at General (Jackson Madison County) for 30 plus years and saw the impact of caring for a loved one with mental and physical limitations on a caregiver. Especially when the caregiver is also a wife, mother and supporter of the family," said Triplett.

“My thoughts were to try to alleviate some of that by providing a safe haven where they can drop their loved one off and know they are well taken care of while they work, run errands or have a Calgon moment. Because there wasn't such a facility here in Jackson I decided to step out on faith and love and go for it,” she said.

Running a business can be rewarding, but it also comes with challenges.

“Going from a career in nursing to a business owner with absolutely no business knowledge has led me to many, many mistakes and errors. Being a female African American has truly added to the challenges,” she said.

Entrepreneurship is not an easy feat, and it requires dedication and determination.

"My will and strength to continue to strive for success in my business in the midst of conflicts and adversities stimulate from first my faith that God will never leave nor forsake me and secondly my family both physical and spiritual words of encouragement. Couples with the support of the community and need for such a service inspire me to keep pushing forward," said Triplett.

Dr. Michael Chua, physical therapist and owner of GeriHab Physical Therapy, works in collaboration with Triplett.

Brenda Triplett and her team at Golden Years Adult Day Care are simply fantastic! They have been taking care of my patients with utmost care and professionalism. The facility itself is amazing, providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for all. If you or your loved ones are in need of adult day care services, I highly recommend Golden Years. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!,” said Dr. Chua.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Triplett shares this advice:

"Knowledge is definitely power. Do your research and make connections with others in similar businesses. Luke 14:20 speaks of counting the cost. Do know (that) Rome wasn't built overnight. But with God all things are possible Matthew 19:26. BELIEVE."
