Emerging Entrepreneur: Dominique Anderson

by Paula Anderson

“As a social entrepreneur, Dominique Anderson developed the entrepreneurial mindset at an early age. According to Anderson, she built a small team of friends to cut yards in

the 5th grade and she served as the manager. That ‘seed’ of managing and leading was planted to help children in grades 3-5 learn how to become an entrepreneur.

“I developed a program called Junior CEO and it is aimed to help them learn how to make money and do good,” said Anderson.

The model of the program is to currently partner with schools and teach social entrepreneurship in the classrooms.

The mission is on helping diverse students learn entrepreneurship principles and how to scale their businesses. Over the course of the program, there have been 20 businesses formed. With all business ventures, there are ups and downs.

One of the challenges has been teaching young people how to start and sustain businesses while giving back and helping others, stated Anderson.

Anderson is blending her love for teaching through social entrepreneurship. She is originally from Nashville, and moved to Memphis after college and taught in the local school system.

However, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in public relations and this sparked another interest.

Her company, Dominique Anderson Consulting, specializes in affordable housing and inclusive community development. The social impact focuses on the real estate industry.

Although she began her journey early in life, she advises entrepreneurs to set-up books, complete required paperwork and seek a small business certification.

“Anyone can be an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur that gives back takes a special soul.”
